Boulder Book Store, one of the country’s premier independent bookstores, the Boulder Public Library and T. A. Barron are joining forces to create Merlin Camp, an exciting summer camp experience based on Barron’s bestselling Merlin Saga.  Merlin Camp is a nature and art based summer camp for kids ranging age 8-12.  At Merlin Camp we believe that kids want to play and have fun during the summer, after being in school all year long.  Boulder offers a wide range of parks and trails that are perfect for exploring local flora and fauna, fantasy role playing and transporting ourselves to the world of Fincayra.

Merlin Camp is inspired by the award winning Books of T.A. Barron, in which Merlin The Wizard grows into adulthood and ultimately the wise wizard he is.  The Merlin Saga, which tells the secrets of Merlin’s youth before he became a famous wizard, has captured the imaginations of children worldwide since the first book was published in 1996.  T. A. Barron is the award-winning and New York Times bestselling author of the Merlin Saga, which has sold millions of copies worldwide and was recently optioned for a major motion picture by Disney, with screenplay by Philippa Boyens, one of the screenwriters for the Lord of the Rings films. A long-time advocate of the power of youth, Barron founded the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes, which honors outstanding young leaders who have made a significant impact on their communities and the environment. Just as Merlin became familiar with the power and beauty of nature, we also believe that nature based education is an amazing way to teach kids about their local habitat, history, art and music while providing a fun and creative space for kids to feel free being and expressing themselves.  Each day, the campers will create something new, whether it’s a potion, mystical instrument or a wizard staff.  We want to inspire in them an awe of nature, the magic that exists in nature, and the magic people bring to the world.  With Colorado’s natural backdrop serving as the campground, children will explore imagination and learn about wizard lore, history, create their own items of power, stir up secret potions, join in a grand wizard’s quest, as well as meet with the great wizard himself, T.A. Barron.

Being in Boulder gives us a unique opportunity to offer a familiar and accessible location for parents to drop off kids, and still have access to the amazing beauty that is on our doorstep.  Created by Boulder Bookstore in partnership with Boulder Public Library and T.A. Barron, along with some inspiration and help from the awesome Book People in Austin Texas, Merlin Camp offers a magical, educational and inspiring experience during the summer.
